This 544-question survey was designed by Bert Vaux (UWM) and Bridget Samuels (Harvard University) and administered online between 2004 and 2006. The survey was not advertised in any way, and was open to all takers on the internet. By the time the survey ended, it had been filled out (entirely or in part) by more than 3000 individuals.
Due to various flaws in the survey software employed by the authors, and Vaux’s move to Cambridge University in 2006, the survey data languished in inaccessible form on Vaux’s computer until they were resurrected and cleaned by Marius Jøhndal (Cambridge University) in February 2018. Shortly thereafter Nick Longenbaugh (MIT) generated the heat maps which are now being made available to the public.
